Internal fertilisation

Internal fertilisation is a method of sexual reproduction in which the male gametes are introduced inside the female reproductive organ. Fertilisation then takes place inside the female organism, as opposed to external fertilisation.

Conditions for internal fertilisation

This method of reproduction involves the encounter of sexual partners as well as the existence of complex reproductive organs, with a copulatory organ and receptacle for male gametes.

Internal fertilisation therefore results from the implementation of collaboration in order to make copulation possible. This collaboration may lead to the development of sexual selection processes.
