Host plant

Some insect species (especially moths) are linked to one or more specific species of plants: They lay their eggs on this plant species and the larvae only feed on this plant. The plant is the insect's host plant, for example: The host plant of the swallowtail moth is fennel or wild carrot. The host plant of the black-veined white butterfly is the hawthorn.
