Cirripedia is an order of crustaceans that includes barnacles. The young animals look like many other crustaceans, but once they reach a mature age, barnacles are always attached to other substances, either directly or using a stalk. They are enclosed in calcite shells that consist of several parts, two of which can open to let out a bundle of twisted and articulated tentacles, representing the limbs.
