Blastema

Blastema comes from the Greek word blastos, seed. In an animal, a blastema is a mass of undifferentiated cells, of mesoblastic origin, that can produce an organ.

In plants, 'blastema' sometimes refers to a mass of cells that, in an embryo produced from seed, will become the stem and roots.
