New Worlds Observer

New Worlds Observer is the name of a project proposed by Webster Cash (university of Boulder, Colorado) to NASA. It consists in sending both a daisy shaped starshade and a telescope 1.5 million kilometres from the Earth. Once arrived at their destination, the telescope would be placed 40,000 kilometres behind the starshade. The starshade would block out the radiation from stars, allowing the telescope to search for exoplanets with better acuity.

Combined with a space telescope, it would make it possible to pursue the quest for Earth-like exoplanets even more effectively than before.
