New Technology Telescope

The New Technology Telescope (NTT) is based in Chile, at the La Silla observatory. It is at an altitude of over 2370 metres, and has a 3.58 metre diameter mirror. It is very thin and not very rigid. It has active optics, pistons behind the mirror that keep it in an optimal position. The NTT is operated by the ESO. This telescope has been used to test the technologies used later on the Very Large Telescope.
