MVIC

MVIC is a visible light imager forming part of the Ralph instrument on board the New Horizons probe. It has seven charge coupling detectors (CCD) similar to those on digital cameras, and a strip of scanning infrared detectors, placed at the focus of an optical telescope giving photographs ten times more detailed than the human eye at an equal distance. The whole device consumes half the energy of an ordinary pocket torch!
