Magnitude

The brightness of a celestial body. The smaller the value (down to negative values), the brighter the object. The magnitude of the Sun is -26 and that of the Full Moon is -12. For stars visible to the naked eye it is between -1 and 5. The limit magnitude for the human eye is about 5.
