Large Magellanic cloud

The Large Magellanic cloud is a dwarf galaxy about 170,000 light-years away from the Earth, which seems to be orbiting the Milky Way. There are over 30 billion stars in this galaxy which belongs to the Local Group, a cluster of about thirty galaxies containing, amongst others, the Milky Way, the Small Magellanic Cloud, the Ursa Minor Dwarf galaxy etc.
