James Webb space telescope

The James Webb Space Telescope - JWST is the successor to the Hubble telescope.

The telescope's mirror measures 6.5 metres. The JWST will be in orbit around the L2 Lagrange point. It will mainly observe in the infrared.

The telescope is planned for launch in 2018. The scientific community has expressed its concern about costs and delays in the operational deployment of the JWST which is central to its universe observation strategy.
