Dark ages

The Dark ages of the universe are a time that began when the microwave background radiation was emitted and which ended when the gravitational collapse and cooling of the gas gave birth to the first stars. This Cosmic Rebirth was at the origin of a period of reionisation which ended when most of the intergalactic medium had been ionised.
