Autumn equinox

The spring equinoxes (20, 21 or 22 March in the northern hemisphere) and the autumn equinoxes (21 or 22 September in the northern hemisphere) are the dates when the day and night are of equal length, hence the name.

In both hemispheres the autumn equinox marks the beginning of autumn: in September in the northern hemisphere and in March in the southern hemisphere.
