Waste-to-energy

Waste-to-energy is the use of heat released from the combustion of waste (incineration) or biogases produced from this waste to power heat networks (e.g. heating, hot domestic water, agricultural greenhouses) or to produce electricity. Using waste in this way produces smoke and ash that is often toxic and must be treated and stored in Final Waste Storage Centres (FWSC).
