Waste sorting

As its name implies, waste sorting consists of sorting waste by type in order to facilitate its treatment (recycling, composting, use in energy production or landfill).

There are several steps in waste sorting : "sorting at the source", when producers of waste sort the waste themselves before it is collected, "sorting by voluntary contribution", when producers of waste bring the waste to specific containers located in the street or to a waste collection centre, and "sorting in the waste collection centre", by employees or machines during the recycling process.
