Turf-stripping

Turf-stripping is a technique used in the ecological restoration of environments.

This operation consists of mechanically removing the organic horizons (upper layers) of soil in order to rejuvenate it. Thus depleted and destabilised, the soil favours the development of pioneer species and the related rich biodiversity.

Turf-stripping is especially used to maintain, restore or create new ecosystems typical of environments that are poor in nutrients, such as grass or moors.
