Total suspended solids

Total suspended solids, or TSS, are one of the parameters of water quality and, by contrast, water pollution.

Suspended, non-dissolved particles are obtained by filtering, drying and weighing water samples. TSS is expressed in milligrams per litre.

TSS is responsible for water turbidity, can disturb photosynthesis and the breathing of aquatic organisms and carry other contaminants (heavy metals).
