Photovoltaic solar energy

Photovoltaic solar energy is energy collected from sunlight through photovoltaic panels and transformed directly into electricity. It is the result of the direct conversion, in a semi-conductor (silicon, CdTe, AsGa, CIS, etc.), of a photon into an electron.

The photovoltaic effect was discovered in 1839 by Antoine Becquerel.
