PEFC

PEFC is the acronym for the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, created in July 1998. The initiative applies to forest owners in six European countries.

To assess forest management (and in order to define regional policies), the PEFC is based on criteria defined during the Ministerial Conferences on the Protection of Forests in Europe (MCPFE) of Helsinki (93), Lisbon (98), and Vienna (03).

The French PEFC association participates in the management of the PEFC brand, by order of the Pan European Forest Certification Council. One of its main responsibilities is to issue authorisations to use the brand. The PEFC brand guarantees that wood materials come from sustainably managed forests, contingent on specific rules defined region by region.
