Methanisation

Methanisation is anaerobic digestion, or methane fermentation, which transforms organic matter into compost, methane and carbon dioxide by a complex microbial ecosystem that functions in the absence of oxygen. It is used to eliminate organic pollution and consumes little energy, produces less sludge and generates renewable energy: biogas.
