Indicator species

An indicator species, also called an ecological indicator, is a sensitive species used as an early warning indicator of environmental changes within a given ecosystem.

An indicator species shows these changes through visible, observable signs in the modification of its physiology, for example, leaves turning yellow, the presence of antibodies, etc.
