Chemical dam

In ecology, a chemical dam is an aquatic zone of which the chemical characteristics are an obstacle to the passage of organisms, particularly migratory wildlife.

This may be the case in an anoxic zone, such as a polluted zone contaminated by toxic chemicals or simply repellent substances.
