Biological pollution

Biological pollution is the introduction of exogenous species or genetically modified organisms into an environment, as well as the environmental modifications that can lead to a modification of settlements.

Examples of this type of pollution include invasive species such as the coypu (Myocastor coypus) which disturbs lake ecosystems, escaped domestic species causing genetic pollution, or the eutrophication of a water body generating a proliferation of algae.

The coypu, imported into Europe for its fur, occupies the beaver's habitats and complicates efforts to reintroduce this protected species. © Jac_31 CC by-nc-nd 2.0 The coypu, imported into Europe for its fur, occupies the beaver's habitats and complicates efforts to reintroduce this protected species. © Jac_31 CC by-nc-nd 2.0
