Small Magellanic cloud

The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) is, like its sister the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), a small irregular galaxy about 210,000 light-years away. It is only 75,000 light-years away from the LMC, and contains about a million stars; the two galaxies are amongst the dwarf galaxies orbiting around the Milky Way.
