Synchrotron radiation

Synchrotron radiation is the characteristic radiation of any accelerating charged particle. In the case of relativistic particles the radiation has exceptional properties (continuous radiation spectrum from infrared to X-rays, low divergence, polarisation, coherence, time structure) that make installations for its production a central tool for exploring the structure and electronic properties of matter.
