Magnetic pole

A magnetic pole is the point where the lines of a magnetic field converge. The Earth's magnetic north pole, which is opposite the south pole of the giant magnet that is the Earth, is the direction indicated by a compass.

The magnetic north pole moves on average by 40 kilometres a year depending on the movements of the Earth's core which behaves like a giant dynamo producing a magnetic field.
