Luminescence

Luminescence is the emission of visible, ultraviolet or infrared electromagnetic radiation not resulting purely from heat, as opposed to incandescence. A prefix to the word luminescence indicates the cause of the emission: photoluminescence (fluorescence and phosphorescence), electroluminescence, cathodoluminescence, chemiluminescence, bioluminescence, etc.
