Ductility

Ductility is the property of certain materials (mainly metals) to be stretched without breaking.

Gold is a very ductile material and can be stretched into very fine wires.

A ductile material has:

• high elongation;
• highly reducible cross section;
• high toughness.

A ductile material is not subject to brittle fracture.
