Degeneracy pressure

Degeneracy pressure is the pressure, purely quantum in origin, to which a fermion gas is subjected (in particular, electrons and neutrons). Because of the Pauli exclusion principle quite a large amount of energy has to be supplied to add a fermion to an assemblage of other fermions if these already occupy the low energy states. This results in a pressure force called "degeneracy pressure".
