Foraminifera

Foraminifera are pelagic or benthic protozoans with calcareous skeletons. The analysis of the isotopic composition of carbon and oxygen in their skeletons found in oceanic sedimentary layers makes it possible to reconstitute sea surface temperatures (pelagic species) and the age of deep waters (benthic species) at the time in which they lived.
