Ophiolite

In geology, ophiolite is a stratified group of magmatic rock, generally considered to be a fragment of the broken oceanic crust that rises over the continental crust, due to the mechanisms of plate tectonics. (An ophiolite includes, from bottom to top, ultrabasic rock, gabbro, basalts in the form of pillow-lavas, topped with radiolarites).
