Bathymetry

Bathymetry is the measurement of the ocean depth to determine the topography of the sea floor.

Bathymetric sounders function like sonar, emitting sound vibrations, detecting the echo that subsequently bounces from the bottom and determining the travelling time. The information thus gives a horizontal or two-dimensional profile.
