Cumulonimbus

A cumulonimbus is a cloud that has significant vertical growth, originating from a cumulus cloud (low altitude cloud - under 2,000 m - present during good weather) in which strong vertical currents create major turbulence.

Often characterised by an anvil shape and a dark base, it appears as a sign that meteorological conditions will likely significantly worsen.
