Black ice

Black ice is a deposit of transparent ice that forms when the supercooled water of rain or drizzle touches a surface of which the temperature is below 0°C.

In road traffic terms the term black ice is also used to describe patches of ice that form like black ice in the strictest sense of the world as well as those that form by the freezing of a layer of liquid water (rain, snow melt), on roads.
