Teleoperation

Teleoperation is an operationwhich can be performed remotely.

Medical teleoperation

This is found in all areas particularly in medicine where surgeons use very sophisticated robots which reproduce their most minute manoeuvres. Whilst surgical procedures can then be performed with the doctor and patient several thousand kilometres apart the major advantage of teleoperation is comfort for the surgeon who no longer has to be standing above the patient. The surgeon sits in an armchair facing the robot, becomes less tired and his/her performance increases.

Military teleoperation

Teleoperation is also found in military medicine where robots are sent to the front line to spare human lives.
