STI

A sexually transmissible infection or STI, is transmitted during infection between a person carrying the infection and healthy person. It may involve viruses, bacteria or fungi. However the risk of infection can be reduced, by using male or female condoms.

The term STI is gradually being replaced by the term STD (sexually transmissible disease) as it provides a better description of the fact that some infections may be asymptomatic.
