Self-palpation

Self-palpation is an examination performed by the person him/herself. Self-palpation of the breasts is recommended monthly after the menstrual bleed or on a fixed day of the month after the menopause to identify any increase in size and regular self-palpation of the testes is recommended in the shower from adolescence onwards. Any increase in size that is found is not strictly synonymous with a tumour but does require a medical examination.
