Scapula
The scapula is the shoulder bone.
Location of the scapula
The scapula is a chest bone closely connected to the clavicle with which it shares a joint (acromioclavicular joint) and the humerus, the upper arm bone (scapulohumeral joint). The scapula is located posteriorly against ribs 2 to 7.
Structure of the scapula
The scapula is an asymmetrical, flat, triangular bone. It therefore has an anterior and a posterior surface.
Function of the scapula
The scapula and the clavicle form the scapula girdle which provides the upper arm joint with a wide amplitude of movement.
