Retrovirus

A retrovirus is a virus whose genome consists of RNA. Its particular feature is that it contains a "reverse transcriptase", an enzyme which enables the viral RNA in the genome to be transcribed into a molecule of "complementary" DNA (cDNA) which can integrate into the host cell DNA. It then uses the cell machinery to replicate. Retroviruses are used as a vector to transfer genes, particularly therapeutically.
