Protease inhibitor

Protease inhibitors are molecules which block the function of proteases.

They are mainly antiviral medicines although they can also be used to treat parasitic diseases such as malaria, or act against human proteases.

The protease inhibitors are part of the triple therapy given to HIV carriers to combat the AIDSvirus.
