Neurotrope

A neurotrope is a substance or cell that binds preferentially to the nervous system. A neurotropic virus is therefore a virus that specifically attacks the nervous system and multiplies in neurones for example.

In particular, the Bornavirusesare neurotropic RNA viruses responsible for various behavioural diseases which block the neuronal response to some stimulation protocols, causing learning defect in infected neurones.
