Malate
Malate is a biological molecule involved in the Krebs cycle.
Structure of malate
Malate is the conjugated base of malic acid which has two carboxylic acid groups (it is therefore a diacid).
Its chemical formula is HOOC-CH2-CHOH-COO-.
Function of malate
Malate is one of the molecules involved in the Krebs cycle in the formation of ATP molecules. It is produced from the conversion of fumarate by fumarase and is then converted into oxaloacetate by malate dehydrogenase.
