Magnaporthe grisea

Magnaporthe grisea is the main disease of rice. It is caused by fungi, such as Magnaporthe grisea. In the most virulent form, the fungus attacks the stem of the rice at the base and kills it by preventing nutrients circulating. Magnaporthe grisea is often responsible for a 20% loss in harvest, even for complete destruction of the harvest in areas with a cool, damp climate, such as the Yunnan in China.
