Levetiracetam

Levetiracetam belongs to the latest generation family of antiepileptics . This medicine is used to treat partial seizures, in other words seizures which are not accompanied by altered consciousness. It is prescribed alone or in combination with other antiepileptic medicines .

How does levetiracetam work?

Like the other antiepileptics (particularly gabapentin), the mechanism of action of levetiracetam has not been clearly established. You should note, however, that this medicine is derived from an old molecule - piracetam – which particularly has vasodilating properties.

Do they have contraindications or precautions?

Levetiracetam can cause persistent fatigue and also coordination abnormalities. It can also cause disordered sleep or even mood problems.
