Lentiginosis

Lentiginosis is the accumulation of multiple lentigos or brown spots (Lentigo means "brown spot" in Latin) on the skin or mucosal membranes. These are hyperpigmented lesions, a few millimetres in diameter, which contain more than the average numbers of melanocytes in the basal layer of the epidermis. It can is associated with various disorders in children (Leopard Syndrome, Touraine Lentiginosis, Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome).

One form of central facial lentiginosis (in which the spots are concentrated on the nose and beneath the suborbital regions) is often accompanied by congenital central nervous system abnormalities.
