Human papillomavirus

The human papillomavirus (HPV) is believed to be one of the most common sexually transmitted infections throughout the world. Several types of HPV have been identified, some of which can cause genital warts and others can cause cancer. Fortunately, there is now a vaccine which helps to prevent infection by certain types of HPV and which offers protection against HPV responsible for approximately 70% of cervical cancers.
