Haemolysis

Haemolysis is the break-down or destruction of erythrocytes. Physiological haemolysis is the normal destruction of old erythrocytes in the bone marrow. Pathological haemolysis is abnormal early destruction of erythrocytes in the blood vessels, spleen or liver, in some diseases. It can cause anaemia.
