EFSA

The European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) was created in January 2002 following a series of food safety crises that occurred at the end of the 1990s.

The EFSA is an independent source of scientific advice and communication on the risks from the food chain in order to provide solid bases for policies and European legislation and help the European bodies and Member States make effective appropriate decisions for risk management.

The scope of the EFSA includes food safety for both human and animal foods, nutrition, health and the well-being of animals and the health and protection of plants.
