Diverticulum

A diverticulum is a small sack shaped cavity which emerges from a tubular structure. Anatomically the term usually refers to the multiple diverticuli located along the large bowel. The diverticuli may become infected or, for example if they contain compacted faecal material. This problem is called "diverticulitis".
