Dialysis

Dialysis is the separation of crystalline impurities from a colloidal suspension. The term is generally used to refer to renal dialysis which is a method used to remove nitrogen containing waste from blood (which is a colloidal suspension of blood cells and plasma). Renal dialysis can be performed during surgery or in chronic renal disease when the kidneys are no longer able to cleanse the blood.
