Chondrocytes are the cells that form cartilage.

Structure of chondrocytes

Chondrocytes are the only cells in cartilage and are large round cells which may be up to 20 to 40 micrometres in diameter. They have a large round nucleus.

Role of chondrocytes

Chondrocytes take part in cartilage formation by producing collagen and proteoglycans.
